We have a fantastic opportunity for a Technical Services Technologist to join our brilliant Technical Team!
Based at our site in Ebbw Vale, you will form part of an integral team who not only support each other but also support the
Specifications Technologist by completing customer specifications for finished products on relevant systems, ensuring the data
provided is accurate, valid and compliant with customer requirements and relevant legislation.
Additionally, assist the Raw Material Technologist with supplier and specification management of raw materials, including the
renewal and review of risk assessments.
Previous experience in reviewing artwork and using applicable customer artwork management systems is required.

Job Title: Technical Services Technologist
Reports to: Technical Services Manager
Site: Ebbw Vale
Key Accountabilities:
* Control and maintenance of site packaging management / control system
* Review of packaging and labelling of goods legislation
* Ensuring that packaging products meet set requirements and specifications
* Customer packaging specification development, approval and maintenance
* Responsible for final artwork sign off and maintenance of customer and in house artwork management and approval systems
* Control of status and claims made on final artwork and verification of claims
* Control of release of new artworks to production colleagues in controlled manner
* Export of goods – facilitation and completion of process
Key Responsibilities:
Control and maintenance of site packaging management control system – Product Approval
* Ensure that packaging specifications and suppliers are risk assessed from a food safety perspective and technically approved
before being introduced to the manufacturing environment.
* Responsible for liaising with operations, purchasing, engineering etc. to facilitate packaging trials and manage technical
approval and roll out.
* Ensuring comparisons and trials are satisfactorily completed prior to approval / sign off in collaboration with production and
engineering colleagues.
* Provide expert guidance in our staged gate process, collaborating with procurement, production, NPD, commercial etc. to develop
new concepts and work on packaging improvements including waste reduction targets and recyclability initiatives.
Control and maintenance of site packaging management control system – Supplier Approval Maintenance
* Ensure up to date information is held for packaging suppliers and that they are risk assessed from a food safety perspective.
Ensure all internal procedures are followed and site approvals are maintained. All information held is to be accurate, valid
and compliant.
Control and maintenance of site packaging management control system – Specification Approval Maintenance
* Ensure packaging specifications and associated documentation is obtained, reviewed and approved in accordance with technical,
legal and customer requirements. All information held is accurate, valid and compliant. Packaging items are to be risk
assessed from a food safety perspective.
* Conduct periodic reviews of specifications to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Review of packaging and labelling of goods legislation
* Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and changes to ensure compliance and recommend improvements.
Customer packaging specification development, approval and maintenance
* Completing packaging section of specifications in collaboration with specification technologist in accordance with customer
protocols ensuring data provided is accurate, valid and compliant with customer requirements and relevant legislation.
* Receive, evaluate and action as appropriate requests to amend / update specifications ensuring effective communication with all
stake holders.
Responsible for final artwork sign off
* Ownership or artwork check and approval process
* Managing artwork consistency, accuracy and following customer / legal requirements from receipt of first version to final print
proof sign off
* Working with all relevant stakeholders e.g.: Specification Technologist, Design Houses, Customers Printers etc. to ensure all
packaging artwork designs are compliant with legal and customer technical requirements.
* Management of customer artwork management systems

Control of status and claims made on final artwork and verification of claims
* Ensure that all claims made on artwork are supportable and verified / validated against customer requirements, legislation and
internal policies.
Control of release of new artworks to production colleagues in controlled manner
* Ensure all new printed packaging items delivered to site are reviewed prior to use
* Maintenance of the sleeve requisition sheet to ensure only relevant printed packaging is in use within the production
environment.
Customer packaging waste / recyclability etc. data collation
* Completion of packaging weight / recyclability information and customer packaging questionnaires. Responding in a timely and
accurate manner to customer requests (including annual Valpak Data requests)
Export of goods
* Management of customer export systems and certification (including Aldi, Morrisons and Iceland)
* Organisation and facilitation of monthly vet visits for documentation review and sign off.
Communication and knowledge sharing
* Provide timely and accurate information and status updates as required
Absenteeism cover
* Cover essential elements of other roles within technical team in the event of absence
Education and Experience:
* Experience with artwork approval and management
* Legal labelling qualification
* Strong computer skills including Microsoft office
* Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements
* Experience with export system management
