The Opportunity:

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh is pleased to invite applications for a five-year Lectureship in Latin, within the Department of Classics. The candidate will be required to teach Latin at all levels, to develop and teach specialised modules in Latin literature for advanced undergraduate as well as postgraduate students, and to contribute to doctoral supervision. We particularly welcome candidates whose research specialisation would add a new element to our provision of Latin, and we especially encourage applications from those with research specialisms in Roman Republican Literature or Medieval and Early Modern Latin. The starting date is the 1st September 2024.

Your skills and attributes for success:

A PhD in Classics or a related field.
Research expertise in Latin language and literature.
Evidence of experience in teaching, indicative of commitment to and potential for excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Latin language and literature.
Experience in teaching courses on key authors of Latin literature commonly studied at undergraduate level
Ability to teach Latin palaeography.
