Serco Maritime Services deliver maritime support packages tailored to our customers’ needs all delivered within a national accreditation framework. As owners and operators of specialist vessels, from harbour workboats to oceangoing support vessels, we provide world class integrated maritime services both in the UK and abroad.

Our vessels provide a range of support, which include for example: dive support, military training, submarine rescue exercises, target/test equipment deployment/recovery and passenger transfers.

We have an opening for a AB Fuel Supervisor at HMNB Portsmouth, the purpose of the position is to act as the main labour force aboard the vessels within the fuel section. The Able Seafarer/ Fuel supervisor will carry out a range of duties in the task of assisting in the safe operation of the vessel or the handling of its cargo.

Please note this role is working day shifts, on this basis applicants will need tobe based locally to the port.

Main Accountabilities:


- Deputise as the Barge Master during periods of absences.
- Communicate effectively with office staff and customers.
- Ability to record data accurately
- Berthing/Slipping of the Vessel.
- Ship Husbandry Tasks.
- Mooring up of the Vessel when going to anchor.
- Ship Operational Tasks.
- Cleaning Tasks as directed by the Line Manager.
- Emergency equipment and procedures and location and use of firefighting equipment.
- Drive deck machinery including cranes.
- Assist in repair and maintenance of ship’s equipment.
- Machinery care, routine maintenance and lubrication as directed by the Barge Master:
- Issuing and Receiving cargo
- Valve operation
- Hose and connector handling
- Crane operations
- Ensure measures to prevent pollution of the environment are exercised
- Rope handling
- General maintenance and ships husbandry
- Other deck related tasking’s through the port as reasonable appropriate to qualification and experience
- To live locally and be within daily commuting distance of Portsmouth Naval Base


What you’ll need to do the job:


- EDH Course or AB’s Ticket
- Basic Sea Survival
- Fire Fighting
- ENG 1 Medical.
- Rope handling
- Fire control training
- First Aid
- Sea survival
- Crane operation
- Health and Safety awareness
- Managing customers and suppliers
- Operate IT equipment.
