As well as being responsible for the management and maintenance of the University’s academic teaching and research buildings, we also care for a significant collection of Champion Trees, an expansive lake and the university SportsPark.
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and flexible individual to join the Maintenance Services team as a Building Management System (BMS) Technical Specialist, within the Estates Function.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, ongoing maintenance, and upgrade/development of the University’s Building Management systems. The successful candidate will be part of the BMS team and be required to work directly with University Schools and Functions to provide a full range of BMS and engineering building services support. The role will involve implementing policies and processes, providing professional or specialist advice as well as some project management works related to repairing and upgrading BMS controls and systems.
The role holder will require detailed knowledge and understanding of University systems and procedures and the specialist knowledge and skills to be able to contribute to the development of the Building Management Systems operated by the University of Reading.

The role holder will be need to have extensive experience in Building Management Systems and be able to program both Schneider Continuum and EcoStruxure systems at a competent level.

You will have:

- A background in building services
- HNC level related engineering qualification or time served experience in installation, commissioning and servicing in BMS
- Experience working with Schneider-electric’s Continuum and EcoSruxure systems
- Knowledge of control systems/schemes associated with HVAC systems
- Knowledge and experience of working on networking systems and BMS protocols such as BACnet, Modbus and Mbus.
- Experience of working with consultants and project design teams and providing advice with regards to BMS installations
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with a range of stakeholders
- A positive and proactive approach to managing Health & Safety and for promoting its importance in building maintenance and how to apply this in a varied estate
- Good IT Knowledge with experience of using CAFM systems and Microsoft Office package
