Summary

The Health & Safety Advisor is a vital role as part of the School Senior Professional Services Team with responsibility for advising School management on the effective management of Health & Safety by:

  • writing specific plans and procedures;
  • effectively communicating Health & Safety requirements and responsibilities to staff and students so that they are aware of their duties;
  • monitoring performance; and making prioritised recommendations to improve performance.

Your priorities will include:

  • Effectively implement University Health & Safety policy. Lead on the updating of the School health and safety policy, statement, organisation and arrangements with the Dean and School Manager and submit to the School Health and Safety Committee for approval.
  • Champion a positive culture amongst staff and students where health and safety is embedded in activity across the school promoting health, safety and wellbeing through school forums such as school board.
  • Review and update the School health and safety risk register, develop risk profiles for any top tier risks, and bring any updates to the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Responsible for the effective communication of the latest Health and Safety advice, information, and guidance to staff and students including development of content and keeping pages up to date on the Schools Health and Safety SharePoint and My Dundee pages.

Who we're looking for:

  • Hold, or be willing to work toward, a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • Membership of IOSH (or similar organisation)
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practice in approaches to Health & Safety and appreciation of Health & Safety legislation
  • Excellent liaison skills, with the ability to manage complex relationships with a wide range of individuals (including senior staff) within the University and externally
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills both oral and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including evidence of team working and the ability to be proactive in responding to the needs of staff and students.
