Summary


We are looking for someone with NHS Ophthalmic experience to join a multi-disciplinary team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary to deliver high quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake specific ophthalmic assessments following a comprehensive training package. Previous experience using related ophthalmic technology e.g. Humphrey Visual fields Analyser and OCT would be an advantage.

You need to be flexible, enthusiastic and committed to bringing the highest level of care to patients. The successful candidate will have the support of the Clinical Team, Nurse-coordinator and the Ward Manager.

The Ophthalmic technician will function as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) within the department, to provide a seamless service and high quality care to patients with proximal supervision from a registered member of staff.

The post holder will continue to develop and undertake a range of delegated tasks:

Be able to undertake Biometric assessment on patients
using ultrasonography and optical biometry to determine the
most appropriate intraocular lens implant power for patients
undergoing cataract surgery

Be proficient in undertaking Corneal Topography, to assist
the Ophthalmologist in the diagnosis and treatment of a
number of corneal conditions

Be able to competently perform Humphrey automated and
Goldmann manual visual fields on patients of all ages,
ranging from paediatrics to the elderly and on those who
have varying communication skills.




We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.


FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.


WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.


All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.


Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
