Summary
A Vacancy at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination and management of an agreed heart failure cardiology research portfolio at St George’s Hospital. The post holder will work collaboratively with the research teams and wider multidisciplinary team in the management of their own caseload of clinical trials patients and be accountable for the achievement of local and national targets in relation to the service.

Responsibilities include: facilitating study set-up; identifying suitable patients through the process of MDT’s/screening notes; collecting data; interviewing; supporting and monitoring patients and data entry. The post holder will also be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients advocate.
The post holder must also be willing to move to different clinical specialties within the remit of their qualifications and where the need to do so is identified.
St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed individual to join the heart failure research team conducting high quality research in clinical studies involving patients with cardiovascular disease.
This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse with at least 2 years cardiology experience and/or clinical research to join the cardiology department within the Clinical Research Facility(CRF). The successful candidate will be responsible for recruitment into heart failure trials and co-ordinating research studies from set up to archiving.
The key themes of research excellence in cardiology are: structural heart disease, electrophysiology, inherited cardiac conditions, sports cardiology, cardiac intervention procedures including devices trial andheart failure which includes drug tial and phase II studies. These are well represented and further enhanced by linked cardiac topics including ECG, cardiac MRI, Echocardiogram and pathophsiology.
The department participates in many trials, including NIHR portfolio work. Participation in high quality trials is critically important for cardiology to maintain its position as a leader in the cardiology research field worldwide and the successful candidate will be key to this. The successful candidate will join an existing research team and work closely to establish and further develop cardiovascular research.
Our acute Heart Failure Unit opened in 2016 with 11 beds. It is the only dedicated specialist heart failure unit in the UK. We specialise in managing the most complex and high-risk heart failure patients in the hospital. There are daily consultant led ward rounds, supported specialist heart failure nurses, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, dietician and pharmacist.
We provide a heart failure service covering the entire hospital. We have daily Consultant ward rounds reviewing inpatients with heart failure on medical and surgical wards. We are proactive in identifying all new admissions with heart failure in the hospital and have an inpatient specialist heart failure nurse covering all the cardiology and cardiothoracic wards.
Our lead Heart Failure consultant Dr Lisa Anderson chairs the British Society for Heart Failure. St George's Hospital leads and participate in numerous heart failure research studies to create and improve treatment for our patients to give longer and healthier lives.
