Summary


This role requires a dynamic and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join our passionate Critical Care Therapy Team. The therapy team work very closely with the rest of the Critical care multidisciplinary team where collaboration is key to bring about holistic, patient centred rehabilitation.

To support the rehabilitation coordinator to deliver specialist assessments and treatment planning of critically ill patients requiring co-ordinated rehabilitation management.

To support the rehabilitation coordinator to ensure patients receive an enhanced rehabilitation process for the entire patient’s journey through critical care to follow up in the acute hospital wards and community, ensuring continuity of care and seamless transitions between care providers beyond the acute hospital environment.

Ensure patients have access to associated support services through appropriate and timely referral.

Liaison with multi professional groups, patients, relatives and carers to ensure maximum effectiveness of assessment and treatment delivered.

To be professional, legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of the work undertaken, including the management of the patients treated and to ensure a high standard of clinical expertise is delivered to those patients, maintaining up to date and accurate records as an autonomous practitioner.

To support the rehabilitation coordinator in planning and development of rehabilitation services within critical care and be responsible for delegated projects

To act as deputy to the rehabilitation coordinator in his/her absence and be reportable to the clinical therapy manager and senior respiratory specialist.

To participate in the on-call rota

To contribute to the continuing professional development of other junior physiotherapists and students who work on critical care supporting their learning and development.

To hold responsibility for own delegated complex physiotherapy caseload within critical care working without direct supervision

To actively participate in supervision which will be achieved through regular informal and informal training and clinical reasoning sessions with the rehabilitation coordinator, peer review, case conferences.

Supervise, educate and assess the performance of students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

Southport is a pleasant coastal town – a great place to live and work. The cities of Liverpool and Manchester are close by with great train links. The beautiful Lancashire fells and Lake District National Park are also within easy reach.

13. Undertake evidence-based audit as directed by the rehabilitation coordinator and if required research projects to further clinical practice and development of patient services. Make recommendations to the rehabilitation coordinator to suggest
changes to practice.
14. Support the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols as directed by the rehabilitation coordinator.
15. The post holder must comply with all relevant policies, procedures and training on infection prevention and control.
