About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Small Works Estimator to join our friendly team working on the Tower Hamlets School (THS) PFI contract. This is a full time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The role of a Small Works Estimator is to provide commercial and Quantity Surveying support to the projects function of the Education Sector. The Small Works Estimator will support the Education Sector with all aspects of change management (variations) ensuring the complete lifecycle of a change request is owned and managed in line with the specific contractual obligations of each Education contract.


Responsibilities

To work on assigned tasks and duties independently and understand the requirements of what the project requires using previous experience and knowledge, to lead on assigned projects and tasks whilst being responsible for channels of communication with the Quantity Surveyor, subcontractors and the client.
To control the financial spend of project work by assessing the requirements of the role and then organising all stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery of the project on time and on budget.
Whilst not a budget holder this role to be responsible for controlling and monitoring the spend of projects and then reporting this on a regular basis to the Commercial Manager.
To assist in managing the financial risk of project work for the client by using previous knowledge and through liaising with the Commercial Manager to advise the client on how best to spend their budget.
To assist in the tendering process to ensure value for money is achieved for the client, liaising with the PMO to ensure value for money on projects and budgets where applicable.
To appoint suppliers including contractual and commercial terms ensuring best value, contractual terms and conditions and SLA requirements are achieved.
To manage supplier accounts - application/certification/payment.
To be responsible for uploading commercial records to the G4S QMS system ensuring all records and reports are available.
To record/present commercial information to the finance team to allow accurate forecasting/records.
To record/present commercial information to Project Managers.
To report on contractual performance and commercial service in relation to change management
To attend client meetings in support of the Commercial Manager, where appropriate act as client liaison.
To update the client of any key changes to materials or strategic contractors.
To ensure effective financial and commercial management practices are used in accordance with company guidelines and procedures.
To comply with controls for supply chain expenditure.
To demonstrate knowledge of the contract ensuring that the operational team and commercial team correctly identify and price contract project proposals and variations.
To assist in the review of contracts with operational staff to highlight shortfalls and cost overruns.
To assist in the formation and agreement of final accounts in support of the Commercial Manager and on your own projects through measure with the Client and their team, and with the Supply Chain to maximise opportunity.
To assist in providing and developing a highly effective Quantity Surveying function.


Essential

Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role.
Must be able to work independently and be self disciplined.
High standards of numeracy, oral and written communication skills.
Commercial and contractual awareness with a proven track record of success.
A good level of competency of Microsoft packages.
Self-motivation, passion and a driven ‘can do’ attitude.
Be able to organise yourself and others' workload.
Be proactive in your approach.
An excellent communicator.
A high level of diplomacy and customer focused.
The ability to anticipate problems and ensure early intervention.


Desireable

Previous experience of working within the FM industry.
Degree/ HND or equivalent, ideally in Quantity Surveying.
Membership to a professional body is desirable but not essential.
Understanding of Engineering and Building Services systems
