Summary

Deli Assistant

The Opportunity
As a Deli Assistant you will contribute to Feel Well Deli’s success by providing great customer service to all of our customers. The purpose of this role is to support the smooth running of the deli, by providing customers with a prompt service, quality beverages and products, and maintaining a clean, comfortable environment.

What exactly will you do?
• Greet customers warmly and provide friendly assistance in selecting deli products.
• Offer product information, suggest pairing options (upsell), and address customer inquiries.
• Assist in the preparation and assembly of all hot food, sandwiches, salads, and any other menu items following standard recipes.
• Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g., preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios).
• Make and Serve beverages and food.
• Ensure food presentation is appealing and maintains quality and freshness.
• Monitor inventory levels of all products, rotating and restocking, highlighting any up-and-coming out-of-date stock to management, and placing orders to replenish stock levels.
• Assist in receiving and inspecting deliveries to ensure quality and accuracy.
• Maintain a clean and organised deli, kitchen, and food preparation surfaces, including performing daily and deep cleans where required, and empty bins.
• Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards to ensure a safe environment for both staff and customers.
• Operate deli-specific equipment, such as ovens, grills, coffee machines with precision and safety.
• Quality check deli equipment to ensure proper operation and report any maintenance needs to management.
• Collaborate with the senior kitchen staff in placing orders for deli products and kitchen supplies.
• Opening and closing of the deli, ensuring security measures are adhered to (such as turning on/off alarms).
• Contribute innovative ideas to enhance the deli's menu and introduce new and seasonal offerings.
• Efficiently process payments and utilise the point-of-sale system accurately.
• Minimise food wastage and adhere to waste management policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with the chefs to provide general cover and assistance during periods of absence, annual leave, and to meet business needs.
• Learn and develop culinary skills while following established recipes and culinary techniques.

What we’re looking for:
• Basic knowledge of food handling and preparation
• Previous experience in a deli, food service or kitchen environment
• Food hygiene and safety knowledge
• Willingness to learn and develop culinary skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, and collaboratively, as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• High attention to detail and strong organisational abilities.
• Experienced in stock control
• Good time management skills.
• The ability to multitask.
• Sales & Upselling.
• Positive can-do attitude and able to positively problem solve.
• Flexibility to work additional hours, and holidays as required.


Minimum Wage
HOURS: Part time, 16 hours
LOCATION: Gateshead
