Role Overview
As a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, you will lead critical data analysis, manage vital datasets, and shape the bioinformatics infrastructure at our institute.
With access to high-performance computing(HPC) and advanced IT facilities, your work will empower researchers globally, fostering breakthroughs in genomics and genetics. You will work alongside a diverse team of bioinformaticians, biologists, and software engineers, driving innovative solutions in crop health and plant science.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the assembly, annotation, and pan-genomic analysis of wheat and various filamentous pathogens to address critical questions in crop health.
Perform sophisticated genome and transcriptome analysis, focusing on the interactions between globally significant fungal pathogens and wheat.
Develop and enhance our bioinformatics infrastructure to support robust and scalable research applications.
Provide expert training and mentorship to junior bioinformaticians, PhD students, and early career scientists, promoting a culture of excellence and collaboration.
Serve as deputy to the Head of Bioinformatics, aiding in strategic planning and team management.
Qualifications and Experience
PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, or a closely related field.
Proven expertise in genome assembly, annotation, and pan-genomics, as well as transcriptome analysis of complex experiments.
Proficiency in statistical analysis and scripting with strong skills in R, Python, and Bash.
A robust publication record in genomics or closely related fields.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in grant writing, coupled with excellent communication skills.

Additional Information
This is a 3-year appointment initially up to the 31 March 2028, with a salary range of £37890 - £41438 per annum, based on experience. Rothamsted supports flexible working arrangements, including the possibility of regular homeworking.
