Summary


First Steps Nursery is a purpose built NHS workplace nursery for staff working for East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. A brand new build has been built onsite at the Conquest Hospital and opened in January 2022. The nursery provides full day care for 56 children a day aged 4 months to 8 years.

We are looking to recruit a Nursery Kitchen Assistant working 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will need to hold a minimum food hygiene certificate and have had some work experience working within a catering environment. Knowledge of providing healthy balanced meals to children is essential to role.

The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate they have a good knowledge of food hygiene and environmental health standards, be an effective communicator and have good organisational and problem-solving skills.

In addition and as requested by the children within our nursery, they would like the successful candidate to:

- be happy with a smiley face

- have lots of fun with us

- give good cuddles

- tell lots of stories (we like using lots of different props)

- do silly dances

- play lots of games with us

- go on our outdoor adventures with us

- like to get messy!

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ordering supplies of food and lunches and collect from the main hospital kitchen where necessary.
2. Maintaining adequate stock levels of food supplies and non-food stock to ensure operational standards are maintained
3. Liaise with Childcare Manager to ensure value for money and remain within budget
4. Complete daily information for the kitchen and work within the guidelines of the Better food protocol
5. Complete daily information reference cleaning schedules and work within the guidelines of trust infection control
6. Check temperature of refrigerator and record on a daily basis to comply with Environmental Health Regulations.
7. Undertake relevant training in food hygiene to maintain standards and meet Ofsted and environmental health requirements.
8. Assist childcare manager with area of Inspection related to food areas in Ofsted standards and yearly environmental health inspections.
9. Prepare healthy option snacks and drinks for children during the day and assist with serving.
10. Preparing tables with cutlery and serving dishes for the lunch time period.
11. Serving lunch to children and assisting staff.
12. Clear away all snack & lunchtime utilities used and clean area.
13. Load dishwasher and clean kitchen area
14. Clean all areas of kitchen, meal area and toilet and laundry areas. Maintaining high standards of hygiene within these areas.
