Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking for highly motivated and committed Health Care Assistants to join our wards and teams.

You’ll have the opportunity to gain experience and develop your skills in a busy acute general hospital, working alongside the nursing teams and undertaking a range of activities under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.

You will need to be passionate and enthusiastic about patient care; putting patients at the heart of everything you do. You will be working in a multi-professional team and should be flexible and adaptable. For this role you will need to communicate effectively with other staff and patients at all levels.

You will be required to liaise with a wide range of healthcare professionals as well as the general public and patients. As such you will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Assist and support registered nursing staff in terms of personal care or treatments to be carried out.

Report on general condition / appearance of patients to the nurse in charge.

Maintain good standards of department housekeeping under the direction of the nurse in charge, including cleaning of the treatment areas and equipment, cleaning of storage shelves and cupboards, safe disposal of linen and soiled linen, and assisting with the maintenance of stock levels.

Make the Lead Nurse aware of any problems or worries in relation to work.

Assist with daily hygiene needs of patients and unit requirements.
Participate, under direction with patient’s meals/beverages and special diets and in disturbing patient’s meals and beverages.

Maintain high standard of personal contact and communication with patients, and relatives.

Participate in giving out bedpans / urinals, observing and collecting specimens as required, and measuring / charting fluids as directed.

Document any observations made or care delivered in the patients notes in a legible, accurate and appropriate manner, with due consideration for confidentiality issues and legal implications. This
does not need to be countersigned by a registered nurses, but should be brought to the attention of the nurse caring for the patient.

Safety
You will follow safety and governance procedures at all times. You are personally responsible for safety and governance issues in respect of you and your colleague.

Care

You will provide cover for your colleagues as directed by your manager
You will be personally responsible for ensuring that you protect yourself, patients, visitors and colleagues from the risks of infection associated with health care activities and the care environment.


You will adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times liaising with the infection control team and acting on any instructions given.

You should at all times promote and demonstrate good practice for the prevention and control of infection.


You will participate in the annual Flu Jab Campaign and have your annual flu vaccination, unless you have a medical reason why this is not practical.
It is the responsibility of all staff to safeguard children and/or vulnerable adults, to access training to ensure they know what constitutes abuse, and what support is available to them, at a level appropriate to their role and responsibilities.


To report any concerns, without delay, to the identified person within their department/division or area of responsibility as per the relevant policies, keeping clear records, and following up as required to ensure necessary actions have been taken.


You will communicate with kindness and civility at all times. This includes face to face, virtual, email, written and social media communication.


You will keep appropriate records of clinical care and any resulting actions or referrals. All records must be factual, clear and honest. The same applies to non-clinical record keeping.


You will safeguard at all times confidentiality of information relating to patients and staff.
