Summary

Birmingham Newman University is seeking to recruit an outstanding careers guidance practitioner to provide careers education, information, advice and guidance to students and graduates in a variety of formats to enhance employability and positive outcomes. The individual will also support academics to successfully integrate employability in the curriculum.

The role involves providing high-quality careers guidance to students and graduates through one-to-one guidance sessions, workshops and teaching input on employability related academic modules. Working closely with academic staff will be a major part of the role; managing service level agreements and creating, developing and managing a ‘train the trainer’ approach, to support the integration of employability within the curriculum. The role also allows for diverse opportunities to contribute to projects, develop digital careers resources, manage awards, produce career readiness reports, engage with alumni, organise employability related events and to support the careers team with graduate outcomes activities.

The successful candidate will have a degree and a relevant Level 6 careers guidance qualification. Alongside recent, paid experience in a career’s guidance setting, the candidate will have experience of providing high quality advice and guidance to students and graduates, alongside experience of delivering careers related workshops and lectures. Up to date knowledge and experience of the graduate labour market and careers available for students and graduates is crucial, alongside evidenced experience of successfully helping students and graduates secure jobs and volunteering opportunities. Experience of engaging with academic staff, tutors or other relevant stakeholders in an education setting is essential.

As an individual we are looking for someone with excellent research, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop effective networks with a wide variety of stakeholders, particularly academics. A high level of planning and organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks within a demanding workload is pivotal for the position. We are looking for someone who can work on their own initiative but also as part of a team. Above all we want someone that has a genuine passion and drive to make a difference to all the stakeholders they work with, with the students and graduates at the heart.
