This opening assignment is for 10-11 months

Predominately an office based position but with a 2 day flexible hybrid WFH option

Enhanced DBS required for this role

A Social Work Assistant is required with extensive experience with working with DV / IDVA to address the safety of victims at risk from intimate partners, ex partners, or family members to secure their safety and the safety of their children. Serving as the victim’s primary point of contact, to assess the level of risk, discuss the range of suitable options and develop safety plans and to be pro-active in implementing these plans.

Key responsibilities:

Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people and to support families.
Assist colleagues in carrying out statutory duties and requirements.
Contribute to the pod/team in actively planning for safety, permanency and stability for children and young people regardless of the setting in which they live and to actively support children to live at home safely.
Develop a positive, professional relationship with children, parents/carers and professionals.
Work in partnership with colleagues, parents and carers, ensuring that child-centred systemic practice is the principal standard and framework for all work undertaken with children, young people and families.
Be committed to practice that is anti-discriminatory and that actively promotes equal opportunities.
When required undertake primary worker role to support families by leading S17 (child in need) cases identified by the Practice Manager. Taking responsibility for co-ordinating and managing these cases, ensuring a robust support plan is created in collaboration with the family and other professionals.
Arrange, chair and review child in need meetings to ensure targets are achieved and child’s needs continue to be consistently met.
Undertake specialist family work including contribution and support in parenting assessments, risk assessment and single assessments as directed by the practice manager. Where appropriate also undertaking parenting support and life story work.
If required attend court to provide verbal evidence of any assessment undertaken.

Qualifications:

Educated to at least GCSE standard English and Maths or Literacy & Numeracy Award equivalent.
Level 3 Diploma in Children & Young People’s Working or other relevant qualification (eg, NNEB, Diploma in Youth and Community Work, Welfare etc) or a willingness to work towards this.



Experience:

Experience of direct work with children and families.
Extensive experience with working with DV / IDVA to address the safety of victims at risk.
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Knowledge and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Sound knowledge of the Children Act and Child Protection legislation.
Basic knowledge of systemic practice and its application in children’s social care.



Skills & Abilities:

Ability to establish professional, effective working relationships with a range of partners/colleagues and children, young people and families.
Ability to write accurately, concisely and sensitively with a high degree of detail.
Able to communicate effectively and professionally through written work with children, young people, families, colleagues and professionals.
Able to build and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children, young people and families.
Able to think reflectively and creatively in relation to direct work with children, young people and families.
Able to work autonomously and prioritise work efficiently.
Excellent verbal communication skills with a high degree of confidence in order to challenge and articulate information whilst retaining a professional approach at all times.
Able to maintain confidentially at all times.
Ability to fully meet the requirements of the post and cover the geographic area required, either by possession of a valid driving license or access to public transport in line with the regulations of the Equality Act 2010.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
