Summary


The CNWL Temporary Staffing Service offers flexible working patterns which supports you and the Trust, and can also provide frequent work for those with regular availability.

The post holder will provide a specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment service without direct supervision for patients with complex physical, psychological and sensory impairment often with multi-pathology

· To plan, implement and evaluate treatment and management programmes to ensure the identified needs of the individual are met at all stages of the OT process.

· To educate and advise patients, their families and carers in order to facilitate self-management of their condition and optimise their rehabilitation potential and quality of life.

· To support in the development of new initiatives within the service and wider trust.

· To be an active member of the multidisciplinary team working collaboratively with other members of the team and recognising the skills and expertise of others.

· To provide support and supervision to therapy rehabilitation assistants, OT assistant, activity coordinators, junior staff and delegated under-graduate Occupational Therapy students.

· To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

What Happens Next?

· To undertake specialised assessment and provide interventions to clients with complex presentations as an autonomous lone practitioner in the relevant team setting.

· To determine the impact of mental and physical conditions on service user’s functional ability and undertake assessment/make recommendations with regards to the provision of equipment/aids and adaptations.

· To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment and management for patients in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.

· Ensure that every patient involved in the OT process has meaningful and relevant timely occupation focused goals that are challenging but achievable.

· To ensure accurate and evaluative records of assessment, treatment and patient care are maintained in accordance to professional and service standards.

· To be responsible for own practice and accountable for all aspects of Occupational Therapy treatment and care delivered to patients accepting responsibility for a designated caseload ensuring prioritisation where appropriate.

· To have specialist knowledge and to ensure the use of outcome measures to measure the efficacy and effectiveness of care.

· To represent Occupational Therapy and/or individual patients at multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service and integrate Occupational Therapy into the treatment/management programme.

· To assess and recommend equipment to assist/maximise individual patients’ functioning and independence, including prescribing and ordering equipment as required via the equipment service.

· To advise, instruct and teach patients, relatives, carers and other professionals to promote understanding of the aims of Occupational Therapy and to enable the patient to self-manage their condition and optimise their potential.
