Summary


Ward 15a, a 16 bedded Urology/ Gynaecology Ward, have a full time permanent vacancy for a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant.

You will be responsible for supporting the Registered Nurses to provide a high standard of care to all our patients

Ward 15a are looking for a kind, caring and compassionate Health Care Assistant to join their friendly team of staff who are dedicated to providing excellent patient-centred care. You will receive full training and will be supported to complete you Care certificate.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty-five-minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients.

1. Foster People’s Rights and Responsibilities



a) Ensure all Trust standards are met within your workload and that a quality service is provided at all times.



b) Ensure all patients’ requirements are met with dignity, sensitivity and empathy.



c) Be non-judgmental in your approach to client care and attitudes.



2. Maintain Confidentiality of Information



a) Assist trained staff to carry out nursing care ensuring the patients’ confidentiality and privacy are maintained.



b) Maintain confidentiality with regard to the Data Protection Act for all information received.





3. Monitor and Maintain the Safety and Security of the Work Environment



a) Ensure patients’ safety, comfort and welfare at all times.



b) Report accidents, incidents, losses as they occur to the nurse in charge.



c) Attend yearly up-dates on all statutory training, including basic life support and manual handling and moving.



c) The post holder must comply with all relevant policies, procedures

and training on infection prevention and control.







4. Minimise the Risks Arising from Health Emergencies



a) Report untoward incidents and occurrences regarding changes in patient’s condition to the nurse in charge/named nurse as they arise.



b) Assist in emergency care once training undertaken.







5. Develop Relationships with People that value them as Individuals



a) Liaise with nursing, medical and other disciplines within our defined clinical area and other departments and hospitals.



d) Be supportive to the patient and their family/carers at all times.



6. Receive and Transmit Information



a) Ensure teamwork reports are completed and details entered onto the computer.



b) Admit and discharge patients via the computer.



c) Arrange waiting list admissions and participate in transfer and discharge arrangements for patients.



7. Store and Retrieve Records



a) Maintain accurate registers and bed states.



b) Ensure patients’ notes are filed and up to date.



c) Ensure pathology results/X-Rays/reports are available and filed as necessary.







8. Enable Patients to Maintain their Interests, Identity and Emotional Well-being whilst Receiving a Care Service



a) Anticipate and act on the physical and psychological needs of the patient and meet the same.



b) Provide a relaxed and professional environment conducive to promoting the well-being of the patient.



9. Contribute to the Effective Communication where there are Communication Differences



a) Provide effective working relationships with patients/relatives/carers/ nursing team/medical and multi-disciplinary teams.



b) Report any complaints to the nurse in charge immediately.



10. Develop in the Work Role



a) Be prepared to undertake NVQ Level 2 in Care as part of the development of this role.



b) Attend in-service training, study days, seminars, courses as rostered.



c) Attend a yearly IPR/Appraisal to set objectives and Personal Development Plan for the following twelve months with clinical leader.
