Multi-Sensory Support Worker wanted ASAP

We are seeking a dedicated Sensory Support Specialist to join and facilitate full access to the curriculum for DPH/VI/MSI students. Job Description

As a Sensory Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in our mission to provide inclusive education. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing the College's mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.
  • Upholding Equality and Diversity policies, actively combating discrimination.
  • Taking ownership of your professional development and engaging in relevant activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies and practices.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Handling data in accordance with General Data Protection Regulations.

Responsibility

  • Facilitate full access to the curriculum for DPH/VI/MSI students through direct and indirect support.
  • Utilize appropriate strategies, tools, and aids to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Prepare or modify materials/resources tailored to individual sensory needs.
  • Promote student independence through access to technology, mobility, and life skills.
  • Foster successful student transition and integration within the college environment.
  • Participate in Sensory provision awareness training and staff development sessions.
  • Provide communication and mobility support during external trips/events and enrichment activities.
  • Act as an advocate for students, respecting their consent and needs.
  • Attend and contribute to student reviews, EHCP Annual Reviews, and team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate student records and adhere to relevant staff policies and codes of conduct.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Minimum Level 3 certificate in British Sign Language (Working towards Level 3 considered).
  • Recent experience working with individuals with sensory loss in an educational setting.
  • Good educational background, especially in English, Maths, and IT (GCSE Grade C or above equivalent).
  • Awareness of additional learning needs associated with sensory impairments.
  • Understanding of challenges faced by students in an inner-city college context.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the Supported Learning Team and other departments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong liaison abilities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety procedures with a willingness to undergo training.
