Summary


We are looking to a recruit Specialty doctors to join our comprehensive Care of Elderly service at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust. The post will enable the successful applicant to gain valuable experience in a number of clinical areas including:
• Acute inpatient work
• Ward support and referral
• Outpatient clinics support

The successful candidate will work on the middle grade rota with a 1:13 shift-working pattern.

The COTE department has an outstanding record in supporting and training specialty doctors, We are committed to supporting our middle grade doctors in reaching their desired career goals by developing their clinical, medical, educational and managerial skills.

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust seeks to appoint a specialty doctor in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric to work within our Adult Medicine department. The post holder will be based at Tameside General Hospital. The post is based within the Care of the Elderly Department and the main activity undertaken will include outpatient clinics, diagnostic tests and ward rounds and on calls for general internal medicine.

Adult Medicine Department
The COTE department is part of Adult Medicine, which is within the Medicine and Clinical Support
Services Division. The Division also includes Urgent Care including Accident and Emergency department.
The Division of Adult Medicine admits and provides care for routine and emergency medicine and outpatients.
The successful candidate is anticipated to take part of the general medical on call rota which is currently with appropriate remuneration.

Key duties of the post
The post holder will be clinically and educationally responsible to the Consultants working across the
Respiratory Department.
The post holder will support the Respiratory department:
a) To participate in various outpatient activities including the medical management of patients attending
outpatient clinics.
b) Ensuring the effective organisation of the ward including diagnosis and treatment of all patients
admitted.
c) The appropriate discharge of patients, including providing timely paperwork to the General
Practitioner ensuring a continuation of care following discharge.
d) The direct clinical supervision and training of the Ward Junior Medical Staff as well as the organisation
and delegation of clinical work.
e) The monitoring of the quality of service given by the Respiratory which will include clinical audits.
f) Active participation at various committees and working groups.
g) Participation in development of medical treatment protocols.
h) Professional supervision under consultant guidance aiming to encourage the development of all
doctors within the division.
i) Contributing to the provision of reports for the Coroner, police statements and for complaints
management adhering to time frames.
j) Demonstrating an involvement in clinical governance, risk management and clinical audit.
k) Contributing to collaborating with clinical colleagues.
l) Ensuring own practice is up to date. This will include taking responsibility for own clinical professional development and participation in the Trust wide appraisal system.
m) Complying with data protection.
n) Complying with all relevant Trust policies and procedures.
o) To undertake regular on call duties for general medical on call rota.
