Summary


This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in a range of settings across different aspects of the speech and language therapy service.

The post holder will excel in working independently and enjoy delivering therapy to children and young people in a variety of settings, including virtually.

The successful candidate will be a member of a highly motivated and supportive Speech and Language Therapy Team and have access to supervision and team meetings. There will be opportunities for you to develop clinical skills across a range of specialisms, as well as mentoring and supervision opportunities.

The successful candidate will hold an appropriate Speech and Language Therapy degree; be able to work independently as well as part of a team; have experience of working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties.
This post will require the Therapist to engage with the child and their family; liaise with school staff and contribute to the Educational Health and Care Plans when necessary.
The post holder will also provide training to school staff and parents as required; frequently work alone and unsupervised; support (and work with) junior colleagues; contribute to discussions on proposed local clinical guidelines, protocols and care packages and attend speech and language therapy team meetings, inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary meetings.
This post requires the candidate to drive to various locations across Essex.

Duties, Responsibilities and Key relationships of the job

Operational or Strategic Responsibilities:
• To ensure the provision of a comprehensive Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service to the care groups specified in the job summary. This includes Specialist assessment; differential diagnosis; clinical decision making and provision of appropriate levels of intervention based on best practice
• To provide training to school staff and parents as required
• To adhere to quality guidelines and participate in service monitoring and clinical audit
• To adhere to agreed administrative procedures for the service including the collection of statistical data
• To adhere to the service plan and agreed protocols
• To contribute to discussions on proposed local clinical guidelines, protocols and care packages
• To independently maintain the operational running of delegated parts of the service
• To frequently work alone and unsupervised
• To support/mentor Band 5 therapists and supervise assistants, volunteers and students and contribute to their development
• To fulfil statutory requirements towards other agencies. This includes the provision of complex written reports for the statutory assessment process
• To attend Speech and Language Therapy Department Team meetings, inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary meetings
