Summary


This is a locum appointment for a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic consultant colleagues to join our department based across two District General Hospitals in East Sussex. This is a post to cover an expansion of the service. The successful candidate will be welcomed as an equal and valued member of the team.



Applications are welcomed from candidates who practice Intensive Care Medicine as a sole specialty, or who are dual or triple accredited with any of the following: anaesthetics, respiratory, acute medicine or emergency medicine.



We will also consider supporting candidates with a CCT in Anaesthesia and a conditional arrangement to complete CESR in ICM following appointment.

All of our current Intensive Care Consultants also undertake regular sessions in the anaesthesia service and the illustrative job plan includes anaesthesia sessions. For applicants whose other speciality interest is not anaesthesia, other areas of non-ICM speciality interest will also be supported and we would strongly encourage colleagues who wish to pursue other speciality interests to contact us to discuss that in more detail.

The successful candidate will have a job planning session after 3-6 months of being in post to review their timetable and SPA (supporting professional activities). The 10 PA (programmed activities) job plan will incorporate 2Pas of SPA (1 timetabled SPA session per week, and 1PA additional SPA). Candidates who wish to work a different number of PAs will be considered.



Successful candidates will work regular weekday ICM sessions in 5-day blocks every 7 weeks with internal cover for annual/study leave. This will alternate between Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne DGH and equates to approximately 2.2 PA weekday ICM on average per week, including ICM outreach duties. Candidates with anaesthesia as their second speciality will undertake general anaesthesia duties at other times. Applicants with another background speciality will undertake duties in that specialty when not working in critical care. Candidates appointed with ICM as a sole specialty will provide additional ICM outreach duties and provide service within other areas of interest e.g. educational, ICM echocardiography/ultrasound, and research.
