This is a fantastic opportunity to join DWP Hybrid Cloud Services as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer and to create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.

Cloud Infrastructure Engineers are responsible for the implementation and operation of secure and highly available computing platforms, products, and networks. They, build, maintain, upgrade, and continuously improve DWP’s cloud infrastructure and services. They also maintain the ongoing reliability, performance, and support of the infrastructure. This includes:

  • Ensuring availability, reliability, resilience and security are designed into services to ensure they provide a stable platform for hosting business applications
  • Providing self-service and automated, repeatable solutions to accelerate application development and to reduce toil and duplication
  • Monitoring the operating environments.

Please note - this role requires you to pass a security clearance check. For further information on this please see selection process details.

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer you will work in an agile multidisciplinary team building and operating products and services that are consumed by the rest of DWP Digital.

You will build centralised, shared cloud infrastructure services that allow application teams to build, deploy and scale applications quickly to serve our citizens. Our infrastructure hosts applications that serve 22 million citizens, making around £177 billion in payments each year.

You will design, implement, administer and support cloud infrastructure technologies, solutions and services such as:

  • networking and cloud connectivity
  • continuous integration
  • container administration
  • PaaS and SaaS services.

You will be working across one or more of these services, liaising with other technical teams, with the autonomy to identify and build the right solution to meet user needs.

You will have a deep understanding of cloud tools and technologies, especially around infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, containers and cloud networking.

You will have an appreciation of information security, designing solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services.

As part of the team you will support products (in-hours and on-call), ensuring that the right actions are taken to investigate, resolve and anticipate problems.

You will have line-management responsibilities, and provide technical support and assistance to junior team-members.

You will communicate with others in a clear, honest and enthusiastic way in order to build trust, and be able to explain complex issues in a way that is easy to understand.
