The Opportunity:

The role of the Tax Team is to ensure that the University complies with its tax responsibilities both in the UK and overseas, and benefits fully from intended tax reliefs. In addition, we aim to make the handling of tax matters as seamless and straightforward for our staff as possible.

As part of the Tax Team, you will provide clear guidance for staff with queries around VAT and direct taxes, and support the efficient import and export of goods for use in the University’s many research programmes. You will gain insight into the wide variety of activities of a leading research university, an understanding of the tax issues that arise from these, and how to account for them.

Starting with a basic knowledge of how VAT works, you will benefit from the wide experience within the Tax Team, who will provide a firm footing in VAT and other tax issues characteristic of the HE sector. You will also gain a good understanding of the financial systems used to manage taxes. With your curiosity and attention to detail, you’ll be encouraged to spot patterns of queries and system use that will help the Team to improve online guidance and address tax risks.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), with the option of hybrid working.
