Summary

Job Purpose To assess, plan and develop treatment programmes for clients with a wide variety of complex physical needs in a community setting this may be in clients own homes or community clinics. To determine clinical diagnosis and occupational therapy treatment indicated and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner (working without direct supervision). To participate actively in the services training strategy, including in-service training, organisation-specific and multi-agency training. Dimensions Responsible for Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment for a defined clinical caseload appropriate to the service area, working in conjunction with other senior clinical professionals. Able to fulfil physical demands of role, including manual handling applications. Will be required to travel city-wide for client visits, meetings and training. To carry out training of other members of staff, and supervision of Assistant Practitioners and Rehabilitation Support Workers. To supervise less experienced occupational therapists, support staff and students working with the Post Holder. To supervise, educate and assess the performance of undergraduate Occupational Therapy students as required ensuring the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification Key Responsibilities Clinical To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your work To be able to gain valid informed consent, and to identify through assessment which clients lack capacity, and work within a legal framework with clients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment. To undertake a holistic comprehensive assessment and evaluation of patients physical and mental health needs in order to develop individualised rehabilitation and reablement goals, including specific Occupational Therapy assessments but also working across role boundaries to Band 4 level. To use clinical reasoning and a wide range of skills and knowledge to devise specialised programmes of care, to ensure the best outcome for patients. To undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop risk management plans. To provide specialist advice, education and mentorship to other members of the team and colleagues, regarding the management of patients. To engage actively with families and carers in order to ensure the best outcomes for patients. To demonstrate flexibility, prioritise effectively, manage own workload, and delegate appropriately. To lead in team meetings and review meetings regarding caseload. To keep accurate and timely records to ensure continuity of care. To participate in the supervision structure as a supervisor and supervisee, including the appraisal process. Professional To maintain a high standard of care, demonstrating a commitment to evidence-based practice. To be responsible for own Continuing Professional Development and maintaining an up to date portfolio. To participate in the education of colleagues and multi-professional teams using excellent presentation skills. To work within professional Code of Conduct for Occupational Therapists. To contribute to the implementation of service developments and clinical governance.
