Summary

Job Description – Registered Manager

Salary: £38,000 - £47,000 (PLUS BONUSES) DOE v

Aims of Post

The post holder is responsible to the Head of Service for the day to day operational management of their Registered Homes. The Registered Manger is responsible for ensuring that all care teams assigned to the homes carry out their duties in a professional and conscientious manner. The Registered Manager is expected to provide a parental role model for the young people in our care and to ensure that the provision of care is of the highest standards and that it fully meets the Children’s Homes National Standards.

Regulatory Requirements

Policy and Practice

    • The post of Registered Manager (RM) entails statutory responsibility for ensuring that the Home is run in a manner that is fully compliant with the regulations, Minimum Care Standards
    • The applicants will also have to satisfy Ofsted inspector at an interview that they are a fit person to take the responsibilities of RM
    • The RM will have responsibility for ensuring that the homes operate in compliance with their statutory responsibility of RM
    • The RM will have responsibility for ensuring that the homes operate in compliance with their statutory responsibility at all times
    • The RM will be required to attend all inspection visits at the Homes for which they are responsibility and to assist the Ofsted inspector
    • The RM will be required to review every Ofsted Inspection report for the Homes and to implement all actions necessary to ensure compliance
    • The RM will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all Health and Safety regulations including ensuring all requirements are met
    • The RM will be responsible for ensuring a full understanding of the Policies set out in the Policy Manual
    • The RM will be responsible for ensuring a full understanding of the operational guidelines set out in the practise guidelines manual
    • The RM will be responsible for promoting the Company philosophy in terms of policies , processes, routines and ethos
    • The RM will be responsible for implementing care policy and the monitoring compliance by the care teams
    • The RM will be expected to assist the Head of Service in the development of best guidelines

    Customer Care

    The RM will be responsible for:

      • Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with Social Workers and other representatives of our customers
      • Developing our reputation as a provider of high quality child care
      • Maintaining regular contact with the Social Workers and significant others
      • Ensuring formal reports are undertaken in a timely manner and to an agreed standard

      Placement

      The RM will be responsible for :

        • Reviewing and assessing referral information in conjunction with the Head of Service
        • Visiting prospective placements with the Head of Service where appropriate
        • Making the necessary arrangements for the arrival of a new placement. This includes briefing the team, preparation for the Home and ensuring relevant paperwork is in place

        Care Planning and Review

        The RM will be responsible for:

          • Ensuring that all relevant background information is obtained from the Placing Authority prior to the placement
          • The preparation of the risk assessments for each young person in conjunction with the head of Service
          • Reviewing progress plan and for monthly periodic revision of placement plans under the guidance of the Head of Service
          • Reviewing progress against plan and for the periodic revision of placement plans under the guidance of the Head of Service
          • Briefing the staff team on the objectives of the new or revised placement plans
          • Liaising with the Head of Education regarding the development of individual education and activity plans
          • Nominating a key worker for each young person in the home and monitoring the relationship
          • Maintaining a regular dialogue with young person regarding their objectives, progress, problems, behaviour and formulating plans to effectively support the young person
          • The preparation of all formal review reports for each young person for submission to the Head of Service
            • Representing the company at statutory review meetings
            • Representing the company at court hearing where required
            • Regularly monitoring and reviewing all paperwork relevant to home’s young people and the home itself

            Care Management

            The RM will be responsible for:

              • Being an effective role; nurturing, supportive and compassionate whilst challenging inappropriate behaviours and attitudes
              • Ensuring that the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual; and cultural needs of the young people are met
              • Involving the young people in running of the house
              • Taking day to day responsibility for the care management of the specific young people in the home
              • Managing the operational performance of the house and ensuring compliance with procedural guidelines and professional standards
              • Ensuring that medications are correctly stored, administrated and recorded
              • Ensuring all information records are maintained to a high standard
              • Carrying out regular checks of house records
              • Carrying out regular internal inspections to ensure standards are being maintained
              • Ensuring the house car is used in an appropriate manner and is properly maintained
              • Supporting staff in dealing with conflict situations
              • Reviewing of all incident reports and agreeing appropriate actions with the Head of Service
              • Reporting to Head of Service regarding any significant issues which arise concerning the young people or staff in the house
                • Attending and participating in regular management meetings
                • Attendance and participating in regular management meetings
                • Ensuring own continued professional development

                Staff Management

                The RM will be responsible for

                  • Providing the motivation and leadership to the care teams
                  • Providing direction and guidance as the objectives of the care and action plans
                  • Ensuring the care team provide a comprehensive handover at the end of each shift to the new team and to the office
                  • Running team meetings and house meetings
                  • Promoting staff development with the support of the Trainer
                  • Monthly supervisions of care team members
                  • Acting as mentor to nominated care staff
                  • Providing on the job training to new staff as part of their induction
                  • Carrying out 12 monthly assessments of care staff
                  • Assisting to cover staff shortages within the home

                  On Call

                  The RM will responsible:

                    • Sharing responsibility for an on-call support service to provide 24/7 cover to all the homes operated by the company

                    Training, Qualifications and Experience

                      • The RM should have a qualification in RMA, LMC or NVQ 4 working towards the LMC award or Diploma 5
                      • The RM should have experience of working with children and young people with challenging behaviours and disabilities
