Summary

Are you a dynamic, passionate and innovative midwife? Do you want to be in charge of your own caseload and manage your own clinics? Are you inspired to support low risk women to birth in their own home?
We are the second largest single site maternity service in the UK, meaning that brings you both midwifery and wider opportunities that other Trusts simply cannot.
With a total of 11 geographically based midwifery teams providing a full range of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care (alongside specialist midwifery care), we are a large workforce looking after a diverse population. You will be based in the community setting and will have the opportunity to practice all of your midwifery skills. We are looking soon to expand the number of teams currently offering intrapartum care as part of our Better Births and maternity transformational plans. It really is an exciting time to join us at BHRUT.
To meet the needs of the women we serve you will also need to cover the homebirth on-call service, we have opportunities for being involved in Pan London working , involvement in projects across East London’s Local Maternity System (LMS) in relation to maternity transformation, great opportunities for partnership working particularly with our Children’s and Maternity Safeguarding teams. You will need to be confident in working alone and as part of a supportive community midwifery team.

• To be the clinical expert in midwifery care and provide a comprehensive range of health education, psychological and social care advice to women in a hospital and community setting.
• To be the co-ordinator for a specific community team and to ensure efficient use of resources within that area.
• To provide leadership to all staff and act as a positive role model for the midwifery team.
• To ensure the provision of a safe and high quality midwifery service.
• To promote and facilitate a working environment which actively supports learning, innovation and the development of quality care for clients.
• To work in partnership in planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care in order to improve the health of individuals, their families and reduce health inequalities.

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
