Summary

The South East Wales Adoption Service (SEWAS) is looking to appoint a Social Worker within the Adoption Support Section of SEWAS in the Children’s Services Department.

The successful candidate will provide adoption support to all persons affected by adoption and contribute to the development and provision of the adoption service, in accordance with adoption legislation, regulations, guidance, national standards and departmental policies.

The successful candidate will undertake a range of adoption support work including:-

• Assessing adoptive families’ post adoption support needs, developing and co-ordinating support plans and undertaking direct work with the families.

• Supporting and counselling birth relatives through the adoption process.

• Assisting Adopted Adults to access their adoption records.

• Attending and facilitating support groups.

It is essential that you have a Diploma in Social Work or equivalent, are registered as a Social Worker, and have knowledge of current legislation. You must be able to manage your own caseload, maintain accurate records, comply with SEWSCB and departmental safeguarding procedures and practices and undertake any duties appropriate to the grade and role.
You will be responsible for your own continuing development, be an excellent communicator and have good report writing skills, negotiation and mediation skills.

This post requires a registration with Social Care Wales under the category of Social Care Managers / Social Workers and registration will need to be in place prior to commencement in the role.
