About the role:

The role is based within the Councils Waste and Recycling team and exists to encourage residents, visitors and businesses to make good use of the services provided. In particular, to promote the Council’s recycling schemes, to maximise participation and increase the quantity and quality of recyclables collected. The role is also required in order for the Council to carry out waste enforcement activities, which contribute to statutory targets, ensures legal compliance and helps make the county cleaner and greener.

About you:

You will need to have a full driving licence as you will be out and about in working in the community driving a works van. You will need to be physically fit as you will be undertaking deliveries of waste and recycling containers and promotional literature alongside raising awareness to encourage residents and businesses to maximise recycling and legitimately use the Council’s services.
You will have excellent interpersonal skills and significant experience of undertaking a public facing role with high levels of customer service, especially face to face, dealing with all local enquiries, complaints, community engagement and events for the service. This can include high levels of confidentiality dealing with personal information from customers in need of additional support and undertaking criminal enforcement investigations and some enquiries which may be politically sensitive and come with a high degree of customer expectation around a highly visible, popular, statutory service.
You will need to have an interest in and enthusiasm for environmental issues especially recycling. You will also need detailed knowledge of recycling to act as the public face of the Council’s recycling service, attending meetings with councillors, community groups, statutory partners and key stakeholders and be positive and dynamic as you will need to be able to inspire and motivate others to share our vision for a cleaner, greener Powys.
What you will do:

You will undertake activities to raise public awareness and knowledge of the kerbside collection scheme and other council recycling services through dialogue, education, and where necessary enforcement, to facilitate behavioural change.
You will help to deliver educational and marketing campaigns to promote recycling and encourage uptake of services, including undertaking home visits to encourage residents to recycle more, community engagement for example organising volunteer litter picks, door knocking campaigns, attending local events and giving talks to community groups.
