JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Caretaker & Cleaner
Employing Body: The Managing Trustees of Walkden Methodist Church
Location: Walkden Methodist Church, Manchester Road East, Walkden
Responsible to: Property Team nominees (Property Secretary, Minster & 1 other)
Purpose of the job: To carry out caretaking duties within the church
Main Duties
• Keep the church, ancillary premises and grounds tidy and clean to a good standard.
• Unlock and lock up the premises as necessary according to use by church groups or external organisations.
• Ensure all required meetings are set up ready for the meeting
• Set up the church hall for Sunday Services and then unset the church according to the activities.
• Keep tidy the Scott and Suzanna room, Bridge Suite incl Kitchen and the Church hall prior to any setting up or closing for services, group activities and the like. (weekly cleaning will be carried out by others).
• Cleaning duties for the Church including hoovering, cleaning kitchens, toilets rooms etc on regular basis to ensure all areas are clean and tidy at all times.
• To comply with the policies of Walkden Methodist Church and The Methodist Church of Great Britain, especially in regards to health, safety and welfare, working alone and working at heights.
• Previous experience in Caretaking or similar roles is essential
• Any other duties and responsibilities, identified by the person the caretaker is responsible to as are within your capabilities and level of responsibility, in order to meet the needs of the church.
Terms and Conditions
• Terms of appointment: Permanent
• Will be the appropriate living wage as set by The Methodist Church of Great Britain
• There is a contributory pension scheme to which eligible lay employees will be auto enrolled. Lay employees who do not meet the auto enrolment criteria are eligible to join the scheme subject to certain provisions.
• At least one day each week will be free of any duties which will be agreed prior to appointment.
• An average of 16 hours per week, to be worked flexibly and will be reviewed yearly.
• Annual leave entitlement will be pro-rata for this part time post based on 16 hours per week.
• Appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring (DBS) Disclosure from the Churches Agency for Safeguarding (?)
• Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references.
• Appointment is subject to the completion of a satisfactory probationary period of four months.
