Summary

This post provides a great opportunity to work as an autonomous practitioner, providing teaching, advice and practical support to families and other carers in the community setting. As you manage your own caseload of patients, you will establish effective communication with children/young people utilizing a number of communication styles. You will also work closely with colleagues in health, education and social care, which provides excellent opportunities to develop your skills in multi-agency working. You will have the opportunity to deputize for the Lead Nurse in her absence. You will be expected to act as a mentor to students undertaking their nurse training. The Specialist Nursing roles require individuals to develop expertise in the speciality, be able to teach and support staff in the clinical areas, undertake research and audit as required and consider how to gain patient feedback to review and improve services. You should be an effective communicator, motivated and self-directed and willing to continue to develop professionally. Opportunities will be available to gain the competencies required to fulfil this role. You will have the opportunity to deputize for the Lead Nurse in her absence. You will be expected to act as a mentor to students undertaking their nurse training. The post can be physically demanding as we travel across South Northamptonshire and visit children in both town and rural locations in their own homes, where any adaptations to the working environment are restricted. Although this post is predominantly a Monday to Friday service, the post holder will also be expected to participate in supporting activation of out of hours and weekend cover to support end of life care. You will be expected to take responsibility for transport between various community service for which you will be reimbursed. The Children & young peoples epilepsy service is part of the integrated Child health department within Northampton General Hospital. The Directorate provides a range of community, acute and specialist/ multidisciplinary service. The Directorate has a shared ethos of the importance of working together to ensure the best outcomes for the child/young person and their family The post holder will work across both acute and community settings, primary and secondary care and in partnership with the child and young person who has epilepsy, their families and health and social care professionals, to offer specialist clinical support, and provide relevant information and education.
