Summary

Bleakholt is a Registered Charity and a Rescue and rehoming Centre for a variety of animals.
ROLE: P/T Animal Carer on the Dog Section (days), 21 hrs per week over 3 days (7 hrs per day) on a rota (shifts) which can include weekends. Must be flexible and overtime may apply.
NMW/NLW applies.
MAIN AIMS OF THE ROLE: to be part of a Team that protects the welfare of animals, ensuring high levels of welfare and quality of care are provided at all times; to carry out animal care duties – feeding, watering, cleaning of enclosures and bedding, exercise, grooming, training and rehabilitation; administer meds and keep medical records; assist the vet and other specialists from time to time; liaise with visitors face-to-face about the animals; provide high levels of customer service; to be part of the rehoming process ensuring dogs are matched to suitable homes and all known information is provided to the adopter; to undertake ancillary roles such as cleaning, laundry, response to adverse weather conditions, minor maintenance tasks etc.; participate in fundraising events.

ESSENTIALS REQUIRED: Basic literacy/numeracy e.g. 3 GCSE's inc English & Maths; basic computer literacy; experience in animal care with dogs; experience of a physical job involving lifting, cleaning, working outdoors throughout a shift etc.; Dog handling experience; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with Supervisors and team members, volunteers and members of the public; an interest and passion for animal welfare; ability to understand and follow working protocols; ability to use initiative and act decisively. You must be calm under pressure and be self-reliant with a positive, upbeat personality, a positive attitude and be reliable and enthusiastic. A good level of physical fitness to carry out the duties on a daily basis is required and a flexible approach to working hours and shift patterns, inc Bank Holidays/Xmas/New Year/weekends. Must be able to undertake occasional additional shifts or hours as required.
DESIRABLE: NVQ level 2 or 3 in Animal Care, NVQ 2 in another relevant subject; experience of working in kennels; Dog training experience; experience of working in a small Team on a shift basis; a commitment to knowledge and skill development; First Aid At Work Certificate; basic Health & Safety training.
Probationary period of at least 3 months applies. NEST workplace pension subject to eligibility.
