Summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust wishes to appoint a full time (10 PA) Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon. This is a new post to join the existing team of four Consultant Breast Surgeons. The Breast care team consists of 4 Consultant Surgeons , 4 Consultant Radiologists, 3 associate specialists, 1 Specialty Doctor, 2 Specialist Registrars, 8 Specialist Nurses, 3 Breast Pathologists, 2 Clinical Oncologists and 3 Medical Oncologists. The Breast Service provides over 7000 outpatient appointments and over 500 operations per annum and has a local population of 500 000. The Breast Unit hosts a weekly MDT meeting within an advanced technological facilities provided by the Dr Jacksons fund, which is attended by the surgeons, medical oncologists, clinical oncologist, pathologist, radiologists, radiographers, and breast care nurses, advanced radiology practitioners, Palliative care nurses, research nurses and MDT co-ordinator. Duties will be based primarily on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although may require some cross site travel. The main duties of the posts will include: To provide a clinical service of the highest quality to patients with benign or malignant breast diseases. To provide a high quality breast reconstruction service. To work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that we work together as a supportive team. To support the teaching and research activities of the team. To provide leadership and act as a role model to junior members of staff. This post does not include any Emergency on call commitments Post-operative cover is provided to all breast patients by the team across all sites Travel between sites may be required, which will be reflected within the job plan. Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space, secretarial support, and networked computer facilities, are provided. Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles
