Nye Bevan Unit –Same Day Emergency Care

Nurse Practitioner Band 7

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Nurse Practitioner to work on our Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit. Nye Bevan Unit specialises in the care of patients with a range of Surgical conditions. The unit provides care for the following specialties: upper gastro-intestinal, colorectal & general surgery, ear nose & throat, head & neck, plastics, urology and trauma & orthopaedics. The unit runs a Same Day Emergency Clinic (SDEC) for ambulatory surgical patients.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated nurse practitioner, who is enthusiastic about delivering excellent care to our patient group and has the motivation to build and drive the service forward.

The Unit has an excellent team of Nursing, Medical and Support staff who have extremely high standards and give exemplary patient care. Each member of the team endeavours to ensure that our patients receive the best experience possible all the while demonstrating the Trust core values of being caring, excellent, responsible and respectful.

As the Nurse Practitioner you will work autonomously with the support of the multidisciplinary team to assess and manage emergency and ambulatory surgical presentations. This is an evolving and fast paced service ideal for you to strengthen your physical assessment skills, investigation interpretation and further management of your patients.

The role will focus on delivering services to provide:
• Patient and staff safety
• Clinical leadership, support and education across a range of staff groups
• Autonomous rapid and advanced patient assessment, clinical intervention, care delivery and documentation as per protocols
• Including chest assessment, abdominal assessment, neurological assessment, interpretation of results and treatment implementation
• Independent and supplementary prescription within protocols and cost controls
• Review of prescription, make recommendations and implement change as necessary
• Full clinical assessment and clerking of new patients, commencing care pathways and treatment plans
