Summary

Teaching Fellow Cardiology

The main aim of the posts is two-fold. Firstly, to provide clinical training to the Imperial Undergraduate Teaching Programme with an opportunity to gain experience in teaching. This post will provide ample opportunity for audits and there may be an opportunity for research for the appropriate candidate in any desired topic or medical education. The numbers of students based here varies throughout the year. At times there may be greater teaching commitments and at others (particularly June & July) it may be considerably less when the TF may devote much more time to clinical activities and towards pursuing an educational qualification. Thus, flexibility and initiative are essential. The post holder is encouraged to pursue a qualification in teaching and support is available for this through Imperial College. The teaching component of the posts will be accountable to the Director of Clinic Studies.

The individual work plan will be decided between the DCS, the lead Consultant and the successful appointee.

Teaching duties must take priority; it is not acceptable to work a night on call and take the next day off. They will be expected to attend regular Faculty Meetings.

There are no on-calls in this post.

The Teaching Commitment

To delivery cardiology teaching to the Year 6 medical students on their cardiology placement at Ealing Hospital and to work closely with the Cardiology consultants.

Working closely with the Undergraduate Teaching Co-ordinator to ensure that in Phase 1 (a,b,c), (Year 1,2,3) Phase 3a (Year 5) and Phase 3b (Year 6) medical students from ICMS benefit from a well organised curriculum programme.

Contribute to the planning and organisation of the delivery of teaching/Induction at the beginning of each placement.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond.

Our team of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of almost one million people.

We run major acute services at:
• Northwick Park Hospital: home to one of the busiest emergency departments (A&E) in the country. The hospital provides a full range of services including the country’s top-rated hyper-acute stroke unit and one of only three hyper-acute rehabilitation units in the UK
• St Mark’s Hospital: an internationally renowned specialist centre for bowel disease
• Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre, and specialist care at Meadow House Hospice
• Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.

We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public.
