Summary


Based at Whiston & St Helens Hospitals Including Community work

This post will be based at Whiston & St Helens Hospitals but will be expected to work at other sites within the Trust and surrounding community. You will be required to participate in the Outpatient Department, Wards, GP and Outreach services; therefore a car driver or designated driver is desirable.

Individuals must be available to work various shift patterns covering the hours of 7.00 a.m. – 8.00 p.m. contracts must be able to cover 7 days per week including Bank Holidays. Rotas may change from week to week therefore flexibility is required when applying for this post.

The Phlebotomy service operates at St Helens & Whiston Hospitals, and also covers community settings, we delivering-patient and out-patient services and has a developing community status.

The job role requires the successful candidate to be able to prioritise their workload. A 7 day working plan is in place, all staff are required to participate in this working pattern.

The Secretary of State has approved the partnership between St Helens & Knowsley and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals.

KEY DUTIES
• Ensure patient is positively identified.
• Collection of venous sample without harm to the patient or self by following Phlebotomy Standard Operating Procedures.
• Collection of blood samples at GP practices and Health Care settings.
• The post holder will be required to work across sites where needed with flexibility to cover sickness and annual leave.
• To work within the approved policies and Health & Safety procedures within the\trust.
• To deputise when necessary for a Senior Phlebotomist in their short term absence.
• To assist in data gathering for audit purposes.
• To Support Training when necessary.
• Safe delivery of work to the Laboratory when necessary.

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• To complete annual competency assessments for Venepuncture, Aseptic Non Touch Technique (ANTT) and Transfusion training.
• To keep updated all documentation relevant to their role.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
• To ensure the completion of all paperwork is to a high standard and all necessary requests are completed.
• To record as required the number of patients seen, or other basic information that may be required by management to help provide the service.

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES
• To support when necessary any training within Phlebotomy.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
• Maintain appropriate stock levels within the section following appropriate policies and procedure under the direction of the senior.

RESEARCH & AUDIT
• To assist in data gathering for all, audit purposes within the department
