Summary

Join us as Head of Media, Retail

  • Working in a busy, high profile External Communications team, you'll play a key role in promoting the reputation of our biggest franchise, Retail
  • We'll look to you to co-lead the press office for Retail, creating a drumbeat of good news in national and key regional media that supports the Retail business priorities and helps to build awareness and consideration for our brand
  • You'll gain valuable experience managing challenging reputational issues, advising internal stakeholders, coordinating responses with our external advisors and the central communications team, and handling media
  • We offer a hybrid way of working where you’ll be based in our London office at least two days a week, with the rest of your time working from home

What you'll do

In this high profile role, you’ll be part of the leadership team for Retail Communications, which spans media, public policy and internal communications. You’ll contribute to the creation and delivery of a holistic strategy for the Retail Bank, which serves 17 million customers.

Additionally, you’ll be:

  • Devising and delivering some of our annual creative campaigns, in partnership with our PR agency partners.
  • Establishing strong internal networks and relationships with key external stakeholders, including media and industry peers
  • Representing the Retail External Communications team on working groups with senior stakeholders, and playing an active part in a community of media relations experts across the bank

The skills you'll need

We’ll be looking for you to have excellent writing skills, with a keen eye for detail, and the ability to understand and demystify complex data to support our storytelling. You’ll have a strong news sense and an understanding of the wider economic and political landscape in which we operate.

In addition, you’ll demonstrate proven experience in leading a busy media-facing team, from managing reactive issues that impact our reputation, to creating proactive stories and campaigns that bring to life our purpose and products, and delivering outstanding media coverage.

You’ll also need:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, and the ability to nurture emerging talent both as a line manager and as part of the Retail Communications leadership team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to navigate complex organisations and build relationships internally and externally to support the success of the team
  • A highly commercial and digital-first mindset, with an interest in experimenting and evolving how we communicate
