Summary


Liaison Psychiatry is a specialist service providing mental health care in a physical health setting. This role is serving Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, based at Scunthorpe General Hospital and operates as part of a Core24 Model. We support clinicians working across the Emergency Department and inpatien twards to assess and manage mental health problems as they arise. We provide care for people 18 years and over and 16-18 years out of normal working hours.

The role requires a highly skilled nurse to clinically lead the Liaison Team across a 24/7 rota, responding to complex mental health needs in Emergency Departments within one hour and to ward referrals within 24 hours. The post holder will need to provide specialist clinical advice, education, support, and supervision to staff at Scunthorpe General Hospital and to junior staff within the Liaison Team, whilst promoting a positive culture and parity of esteem.

The service is constantly developing to meet the changing provision at Scunthorpe Hospital, therefore the post holder will need to be actively involved in change processes and supportive of junior staff. The role will, at times, require you to operate under the Lone Working Policy.
• To be responsible for undertaking full mental health assessment of care needs of patients presenting with complex clinical conditions within the Emergency Department and inpatient areas at Scunthorpe General Hospital
• To determine management plans, and possibly deliver short term psychological treatments, for people who are referred with complex mental health needs based upon a comprehensive psychosocial, risk and needs assessment of that individual
• To determine whether people who present with suicidal behaviours or thinking are safe to be allowed to leave the hospital.
• To take an active role in ensuring the Team meet the Evidence-Based Treatment Pathway (EBTP) Clock recommended response times for mental health crisis as informed by NICE Guidance, which includes:• An urgent and emergency mental health service should respond to the person withinone hourof receiving a referral to review and decide on the type of assessment needed and arrange resources for the assessment.
• Withinfour hoursof arriving in an Emergency Department, it is recommended that the person should have received a full biopsychosocial assessment, have a care plan in place, be en route to their next location or be accepted for follow up care or have been discharged or have started a Mental Health Act Assessment.
• As well as rapid response to emergency referrals, Liaison Mental Health Services should also provide an urgent care pathway, with a full assessment taking place within24 hoursof referral.
