Summary

Located in the heart of the Thames Valley, the Royal Borough is rich in areas of natural beauty and green space arrayed around three distinct towns and several unique villages. Much of our population have happy and secure childhoods, go on to work in well-paid roles and enjoy a high quality of life, supported by an active, skilled, and caring volunteer community who regularly give their time and energy to a range of causes. This helps people of all ages to connect with each other and enjoy a significantly longer life than the national average. However, this can mask inequalities and there are concentrations of disadvantage and poverty across the Borough where the contrasts are stark: a 6.1-year gap exists in life expectancy between boys born in the least and most deprived areas of RBWM. As a result, one of the Councils five strategic aims is People live healthy and independent lives in supportive communities. We are now seeking to appoint a new Director of Public Health to enable us to tackle this strategic aim, making measurable differences to the health and wellbeing of our residents.Reporting to our Executive Director of Adult Services, Health and Communities, with a dotted line to the Chief Executive, you will help us tackle inequalities in the Borough and will be a driving force in supporting our communities to thrive for the long-term. This is an exciting and innovative role that will offer an ambitious Public Health professional the opportunity to make a real impact at Director level. We are seeking to appoint a motivational system leader, with a proven track record of public health success and extensive experience of complex partnership working across a range of public sector partners. As a key member of the Councils Corporate Leadership Team, the role provides you with the opportunity to make Health in all policies a reality.Working across the wider East Berkshire and Frimley Integrated Care System, your influence will reach across the borough and beyond.
