Summary

The Specialist Medicine Directorate is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic Consultant in Cardiology to join our team at North Manchester General Hospital and become integrated into the Managed Single Service for Cardiology across Manchester Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will join a team of five existing consultants and will deliver, lead and develop heart failure services on the site. There will be potential for complex device implantation sessions at Manchester Royal Infirmary for a suitably trained applicant wishing to peruse this as part of their job plan, and there are additional opportunities for cardiac imaging sessions where appropriate as well.

The post is based at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) with allocated base ward work as part of a 1 in 6 combined hot week and on call rota, remunerated at 5% Cat A supplement. The post is offered at 10 PAs/week, negotiable up to a maximum of 12 PAs/week, to include hot week and on call participation.

Out of hours work will include non-resident evening, overnight and weekend cover for advice, and for the management of on-site cardiac emergencies, which might include the need to undertake echocardiography, temporary cardiac pacing and pericardiocentesis. The hot week will also include weekend Coronary Care ward rounds and formalised hand-over arrangements.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver excellent secondary cardiology services on site at NMGH, including heart failure clinics and general cardiology outpatient clinics, along with a weekly heart failure ward round and participation in MDT meetings. It would be expected that the post-holder would support the specialist nursing team, and also contribute to heart failure service development and education. Other elements of the job plan will be flexible and open to negotiation, depending on the subspecialist skills and interests of the applicant.
