Summary

Focus Birmingham is an independent local disability charity that works to create opportunities for the people with care and support needs to embrace life and unlock their potential. We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Cook (Casual basis) to help us deliver our mission to provide outstanding services to make people’s lives better.

The successful candidate will be part of a small team who will assist with the preparation, cooking and serving of meals to the people we support. We desire a person who has a passion for high quality food preparation and the ability to be caring towards the people we support.

Food preparation/Customer service: You will:
 Prepare high-quality food for our service users in a timely manner in accordance with service user’s dietary needs.

 Work as a team player with a good positive attitude and treat all customers in a friendly and polite manner.

 Meet and greet Service Users, staff and external persons in accordance with the Focus ethos.

 Manage and effectively respond to queries and complaints where applicable.

 Deal with any enquiries and escalate any issues to the Senior cook.

 Need to complete relevant in house training.

Health & Safety You will:
 Prepare all meals in line with the correct temperature requirements.

 Ensure traceability information is documented and all control procedures are carried out in line with company procedure and legislation.

 Verify that food deliveries are received in accordance with health & safety guidelines.

 Maintain food preparation areas and adhere to cleaning schedules in the kitchen.

 Ensure all machinery and equipment is used in the correct manner and is well maintained.

 Comply with Food Handling & Hygiene standards.

 Comply with Health & Safety regulations.

 Comply with food allergies procedures.

 Ensure all policies and procedures are followed.

The ideal candidate will have previous catering experience and people skills. You will need a pro-active approach and be a good problem solver. You will have a good track record of providing excellent customer service, and be a reliable, punctual team player.
