Rheumatology is a close multi-disciplinary team comprising of pharmacists, specialist nurses, doctors, physiotherapists and occupational therapists who are supported by a respected and valued team of administrative support staff.

We are looking to welcome a passionate and ambitious pharmacy technician to the team. This newly created post will sit within a well-respected pharmacy service to rheumatology patients from Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties.

This post will provide you with the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills within a patient-centred environment, participate in education and training as well as service development. You will develop close working relationships with the pharmacy, medical and nursing teams to contribute to the safe, high-quality, and cost-effective provision of medicines to patients.

You will play a key role in the provision of medicines management to the outpatient rheumatology clinics. You will provide crucial support to the improvement and expansion of this service.

Main duties:
• Patient counselling
• Homecare prescription coordination
• Homecare prescription validation
• Auditing
• Promotion of safe storage of medicines
• Education and training of other technicians, trainee pharmacists and nurses
• Dispensary support

- newly qualified and registered pharmacy technicians

- Primary care pharmacy technicians looking for a career change

Pharmacy technicians without both ACT and MMT will be appointed at band 4 and receive uplift to band 5 on completion of both the stand alone ACT and MMT accreditations. Newly qualified Technicians who have completed the Integrated Level 3 apprenticeship incorporating both ACT and MMT, will be appointed at 75% top of band 5 and receive uplift to band 5 subject to successful sign off at 6 month review.

The working hours are 37.5 hours per week and you will be required to participate in weekend working as well as late duties and bank holiday rotas. Flexible working options would also be considered.

The successful candidate, will be based within the rheumatology team and will also provide support to the dispensary team.
• Prescription management of high cost drug supplied via homecare
• Co-ordinating blood monitoring of patients on disease modifying therapies
• Working as part of the rheumatology multidisciplinary team to ensure safe prescribing and monitoring of patients
• Liaising with patients and care providers outside the hospital e.g. GPs and community pharmacies
• Working as part of the pharmacy team to provide near patient medicines management services to wards, including ward-based dispensing and patient counselling
• Clinical areas controlled drug checks and returns. Conducting audits, reports and medicine usage reviews
