Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Teaching Fellow in Italian in the Department of European Languages and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh. This role is intended to cover aspects of teaching and administration during a colleague’s period of funded research leave. This post is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term for ten months, available from September 2024 to the end of June 2025.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in a relevant area and show demonstrable success of teaching Italian language and Italophone literature or culture in a Higher Education context. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills in Italian and English, with an ability to teach the Italian language at all levels. They will be expected to contribute to the administration of the subject area, including course organisation. The appointee may also be required to supervise Honours dissertations and support student learning through pastoral meetings, as well as contributing to the delivery of MSc programmes, depending on requirements during the appointment.

The post holder will play an active role in the administrative tasks of the Section, Department and School, as appropriate, and deliver and convene courses for the Italian degree programmes, as well as Foundation courses in Italian language. They will also be required to design and teach modules on contemporary Italophone culture (including literature, cinema and/or other media). The successful candidate may be involved in developing innovative pedagogical materials designed to strengthen discussions regarding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as part of broader efforts to question and decolonise our curriculum.

We welcome applications for this post from all qualified candidates and particularly welcome applications from members of minority ethnic groups, who are currently under-represented in the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.
