The ACPs within the MAOS provide prompt review and comprehensive assessment of all patients presenting to UHS for scheduled, unscheduled and emergency cancer care 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. The team are also the primary providers of the Cancer Care Emergency Line which is fundamental to the delivery of the service. The team work hand-in-hand with the medical teams across the care group to provide a dynamic, practitioner-led approach to care delivery.

The Cancer Care Advanced Clinical Practitioner training scheme commenced in 2014 and has been recognised for its innovative approach to care, winning a Health Education England Wessex Shine Award. All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Advanced Clinical Practice is set around the ‘4 Pillars’ Framework that includes Clinical, Leadership & Management, Research & Development and Education. You will commence an education pathway where you will be supported to complete the core modules for Advanced Clinical Practice. These include History Taking and Physical Assessment (HTPA), Research Methods and Evidence Based Practice, Diagnostics and Decision Making (DADM), Prescribing and Pharmacology, Transition to Advanced Practice (TAP) and an option module before undertaking a dissertation. These modules provide the underpinning theory and knowledge that encompass the 4 Pillars. At present, there are two approaches for this Masters Pathway: a module–by-module system via Southampton University or the new Apprenticeship pathway , such as the Bournemouth University Apprenticeship , that will include all the modules and the dissertation in a 3 year programme.

You will learn the fundamental skills of assessing and clerking all patients that come through the MAOS , where you will provide a full clinical review of the patients in line with the HTPA module standards and formulate appropriate management plans , with support and supervision provided by our established ACPs and members of our medical team.

You will also learn to handle calls to the Cancer Care 24/7 Emergency Triage Line and will be the principle person responsible for the delivery of this service, ensuring that quality standards are met and that patient safety is optimised.

As part of the provision of a 24hr service, you will be required to work a mix of days, weekends (including bank holidays), and night duties

We are looking for a motivated individual who is passionate about caring for patients with cancer and looking for a new challenge and an academic pathway to venture into the world of advanced practice. The academic study would take place alongside clinical experience within Cancer Care
