Institute for Academic Development, Student Experience Services, University Secretary’s Group
Full time - 35 hours per week
Open ended (Permanent)
The Opportunity:
The Institute for Academic Development (IAD) are looking for a well-organised and detail-orientated administrator to provide comprehensive administrative support for a portfolio of IAD projects and activities in University strategic priority areas, with a particular emphasis on staff and student engagement and curriculum innovation.
The post-holder will support the successful organisation, administration and delivery of the University’s annual Learning and Teaching Conference; support the administration of funding streams managed by the IAD; and collaborate with key colleagues to ensure that a high-quality service is provided to students, staff, official visitors, and external stakeholders. The post will also provide an element of personal administrative support to the IAD Co-Directors, including diary and inbox management.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. For this role we would expect the successful candidate to work in-office at least 2 days per week as standard, as well as ad hoc on-campus working to support any on-campus meetings or events when required. This includes attendance at the annual Learning and Teaching Conference and the days leading to it to support the event.
The Institute for Academic Development is located in Edinburgh’s beautiful Old Town. We are a medium-sized support service department of 45–50 staff based in a modern University complex, just off Holyrood Road. We are just a 5-10 minute walk from the central Waverley train station and Princes Street area, thus have excellent bus and train link access.
Informal enquiries regarding the role can be sent to cheryl.thomas@ed.ac.uk
Your skills and attributes for success:
A minimum of Vocational qualifications (N/SVQ 3, ONC or equivalent) plus relevant work experience.
Experience of event organisation.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and relevant computing and IT skills: highly competent in the use of standard office software packages, other digital tools (e.g. social media such as blogs and twitter)
Experience of providing high-quality customer service.
Proven ability to use initiative and judgement effectively to resolve day to day issues independently.
Experience of virtual event platforms, and working with funding schemes and/or projects, would be desirable
