Summary


We are looking for a well-organised, motivated and enthusiastic person to join our team. The role of Band 6 sister requires a dynamic forward thinking nurse, to help further develop the team, whilst delivering exceptional levels of care and family support. You will require excellent organisational, communication and team working and the ability to support and deliver paediatric care with effective leadership and management skills.

As a Band 6 you will support the ward day to day responsibilities and will be involved in implementation of policies, protocols and procedures to ensure Trust and national standards are met. Whilst previous experience is welcome, training and development will be provided.

This will be a 12 month Maternity Cover post.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within an integrated children’s service providing care to children and their families on a general Paediatric Ward.

The ward offers a wide range of experience, caring for children and young people with a range of medical and surgical conditions. The ward consists of 26 beds including a 4 bedded Level 1 HDU and designated teenage beds. There is also an 8 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit attached.

This is a 12 month maternity cover post:

Professional

· To be the lead nurse responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care within the team.

· To maintain effective communication with other members of the MDT if co-ordinating referral or transfer.

· To develop standards of patient care based on sound research findings.

· To undertake the audit and evaluation of nursing care within the unit.

· To direct standards in the promotion of health.

· Demonstrate a sound knowledge of infection control standards and promote these within ward environment.

· Provide legible and comprehensive patient records to agreed Trust and NMC standards and guidelines.

· To deal with, in conjunction with the Ward Manager, untoward incidents, complaints and team/staff issues. Actioning plans to prevent re-occurrence.

· To act in accordance with trust policies and nursing procedures.

· To maintain own personal profile.

· Practice extended clinical roles e.g. venepuncture, cannulation.

· To support and provide leadership to all team members when dealing with complex, difficult and traumatic situations.

· To ensure discharge communication is fluent with all parties involved – patient, family, the MDT and other relevant parties i.e. CCN’s, Social Services.

· To actively promote the safeguarding of children and young people.
