Cygnet Wyke is a mental health hospital in Bradford, West Yorkshire. The hospital sits in more than three acres of grounds, which are quiet and private. There are three specialist wards at Cygnet Wyke;
Adarna Ward – Male Rehabilitation ward for men with a mental illness and a secondary diagnosis of Autism Service – 15 beds
Bennu Ward – Specialist Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for men – 12 beds
Phoenix Ward – Acute service for men – 19 beds
This role will involve working on Adarna ward to support the Occupational Therapist in implementing the Occupational Therapy pathway.
The Occupational therapy department at Cygnet Wyke hospital has 3 qualified OTs, 2 OTAs and 6 activity coordinators. Our environment includes a gym, onsite vocational activities, ADL kitchens, a sensory room and other therapeutic spaces.

Responsible for: Supporting Occupational Therapists to perform their role in the assessment, treatment and development of individuals in our care
Responsible to: Service Manager & Lead Occupational Therapist (Band 7).
Hours: 37.5 hours

With over 150 Occupational Therapists in the company, we also work together as a large team providing support to each other across the group, with various specialist interest groups to tap into, including Mental Health, Neuropsychiatry, Autism, Learning Disabilities and Sensory Integration, to name a few.
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will:
- Under the oversight of an Occupational Therapist, complete elements of the occupational therapy process. This may include, but is not restricted to: assessment, analysis of results, care planning including prioritising and grading targets and goals; interventions on a group or individual basis both within the hospital and in the wider community, grading and adapting activities to suit individual strengths and needs and aspects of report-writing.
- Support individuals in your care to identify and work towards meeting their personal goals and aspirations through the assessment process and occupational formulation
- Work with a degree of autonomy and as part of a team to manage a designated caseload within your scope of practice.
- Share information effectively and concisely in a range of situations (effective daily documentation; attendance at meetings to handover information; face to face handovers of information to colleagues; report-writing and care planning)
The Successful Candidate should be/have:
- Experience working in a mental health or learning disability setting
- An understanding of occupational science and the Occupational Therapy process
- An awareness and understanding of Autism
- Experience of facilitating groups and activities
- Able to work independently
- Effective communication skills, good organisations skills and a positive attitude
- A relevant healthcare qualification is desirable
