Hastings Borough Council is seeking a resourceful and self-motivated Building Surveyor to join our team and make a real impact in the Hastings Borough area.

In this role you can enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid working model, allowing you to work from home or our conveniently located Hastings Office, or a blend of both. It should be noted that the role entails travel to our office and throughout the borough for regular site visits and meetings, often at short notice.

Purpose of the Job:

As a Building Surveyor with us, you'll play a crucial role in assisting the Principal Building Surveyor and Building Surveying Technician in managing the Council's in-house building surveying functions.

Your main responsibility will be to effectively manage the Council's minor works system, ensuring the seamless delivery of day-to-day property maintenance activities.

You'll also oversee various cyclical facilities management tasks and spearhead a range of small improvement and alteration works across our diverse property portfolio, spanning operational, public realm, and commercial properties.

Examples of Key Responsibilities:

Administer the Council’s Minor Works term contract on routine and unplanned maintenance works on its property portfolio.

Carry out inspections, produce schedules of works and tender documents for a variety of small maintenance works on the council’s property portfolio under its annual repairs and renewals programme.

Oversee Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) reviews & re-assessments.

Some Essential Requirements:

ONC or HNC in Building Studies or a similar allied subject at an equivalent level.
Demonstrable experience in property maintenance, improvement, and alteration environment.

Experience in tendering, administration and completion of minor works contracts including the successful negotiation and agreement of final accounts.

Good verbal communication and contract negotiation skills

Current clean full UK Driver’s License and access to own vehicle for business use.
