Summary

RPS is looking for a Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) Consultant (Principal/Associate Director level) to support our portfolio of high-profile offshore wind projects in Scotland, the rest of the UK and internationally. We operate a hybrid working arrangement and you can be based in Chepstow, Edinburgh, Woking or London (home working can be considered). We have flexible working opportunities, including part time roles, to ensure a balance of family and working life.

We are at the forefront of the industry - delivering offshore infrastructure projects in complex marine environments including offshore wind farm developments. Our experience includes 20 years at the forefront of the industry, working across the UK, wider Europe, America, Australia and Asia.

When you join RPS, you’ll become a member of a deeply experienced marine consenting and environment team who have been selected as the lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) consultant for some of the industry’s major “firsts”. These include the world’s largest offshore wind farms: Orsted’s Hornsea One, Two and Three, and Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm SSE’s Berwick Bank. We are also at the forefront of supporting the offshore wind industry through Round 4 and ScotWind.

Other “firsts” include bp and EnBW’s first offshore wind farms in England (Morgan), Wales (Mona) and Scotland (Morven), and Australia’s first offshore wind project, CIP’s Star of the South. We are also providing marine subject matter expertise to support Vineyard Wind, the United States’ first utility-scale offshore wind energy project and have been selected as ESIA consultant for Firefly, Equinor’s first floating offshore wind project in South Korea.

We’re RPS, our projects are all around you. We define, design and manage projects that create shared value to a complex, urbanising and resource-scarce world. Our people are our success. We need people who share our passion on solving the problems that matter. Here you’ll find work that is engaging and rewarding, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.

What you’ll be doing

As a HRA Consultant you will be supporting the delivery of large-scale marine and coastal infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland. This includes coordination and delivery of Likely Significant Effects Screening reports and Reports to Inform Appropriate Assessments for offshore wind farm developments in UK waters, working with our team of experienced technical and consenting specialists. The role will involve leading or coordinating HRA Derogations cases, with a particular focus on development of compensatory measures for marine ecological receptors (impacts on Annex I habitats and protected bird species) working alongside our team of specialist marine ecologists. Key to this is building relationships with our clients, statutory consultees and other groups (e.g. non-governmental organisations) throughout the pre-application process and post consent as projects move to the development phase.

We have exciting plans to expand our support to the global renewables sector, with offshore wind as a key focus area of this initiative. As a member of our team, you will work with some of the industry’s brightest and most experienced talent to deliver projects for the industry’s major energy developers. And, as we and our clients continue expanding Internationally, you’ll also have an opportunity to support the delivery of their portfolios internationally.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll have a thorough understanding of Habitats Regulations Assessments for major energy infrastructure projects
Applicants with experience of working in other offshore industries (e.g. Oil & Gas) or onshore energy infrastructure projects would also be welcomed
You’ll have deep expertise in leading and coordinating the production of documentation related to the HRA process. Experience of the derogation process and development of compensatory measures would be desirable
You will have experience in advising stakeholders in respect of HRA through all stages of project delivery
You will hold a post-graduate qualification in a relevant environmental discipline
You will be working towards chartership status of a relevant professional institute

What happens next?

The Talent Acquisition Team will be in touch to let you know the outcome of your application. If your application is progressed, you’ll have a conversation with one of our recruiters and then there’ll be a two-stage interview process with the Team.

All applications will be considered.
