37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
This opening assignment is for 6 months
City: SUNDERLAND
Grade two operative required for seasonal work which potentially will involve strimming grass or cleansing works (litter picking and assisting area drivers)
Key Responsibilities


Complete routine or structured operational work and use basic tools or equipment under general supervision to support the delivery of front-line services which is aligned to customer need.
Undertake work as part of a team or as an individual with a defined routine to set standards, accuracy and quality with instructions provided and minimal planning requirements.
Ensure health and safety requirements are followed in recognising and responding to local circumstances.
Record, report and rectify any faults identified in tools or equipment. Record all pre-use equipment checks.
Record tasks which have been undertaken on time and accurately, highlighting issues and on-site problems to the Team Leader so they are escalated in a timely manner and are rectified promptly.
Required to regularly exchange information with colleagues, receive instructions and report problems to and from your driver and answer straight forward queries from members of the public referring or signposting more complex queries or issues to your Team Leader.
Frequent lifting and carrying moderately heavy items and equipment will be required on a daily basis.
May be required to work at different locations with associated travelling.
Required to wear protective clothing or equipment. Work outdoors in all weather conditions. The job is physically demanding.

Knowledge:


Knowledge of and adherence to correct manual handling techniques and thereby able to identify and undertake the most appropriate lifting and handling techniques for any task.
An awareness of Health & Safety responsibilities associated with the service.

Experience:


Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.

Skills & Abilities:


Able to work outside in a physically demanding role in all types of weather.
Ability to operate basic power tools or equipment associated with your own work area.
Able to carry out routine maintenance tasks under direction.
Ability to follow general instructions and carry out routine and standard operational tasks.
Able to ensure basic power tools and equipment are safe to use and properly adjusted prior to operation.
Able to lift moderately heavy items and equipment.
Able to work effectively within a busy team environment, or independently.
Ability to work outside normal working hours to meet the needs of the service. The ability to work flexibly across 7 days if required.
