Summary

JOB TITLE: Practice nurse REPORTS TO: Practice manager administratively Lead nurse/GP Partners - clinically Job summary: To provide a first class nursing service to practice patients, working closely with healthcare colleagues and in collaboration with the GPs. Job responsibilities: Practice independently in accordance with RCN code of conduct and with reference to practice guidelines, referring appropriately to GPs Maintain accurate and complete documentation of patient care Ensure continuation of own personal and professional development Undertake patient nursing services including: Chronic disease monitoring consultations Wound treatments, applying and removing dressings and sutures Administering immunisations and vaccinations including children immunisations Providing advice re contraception including contraceptive medication Providing patient health education and advice, including travel advice Taking patient samples, swabs and specimens, checking temperatures and blood pressures Carrying out physical examinations, investigatory procedures and cervical smears Participate in annual appraisal system for practice nurse team Share responsibility for ensuring effective intra-team and practice-wide communication Participate in regular nursing / healthcare team meetings Provide professional advice on practice developments, recommending changes to working practices in line with evidence-based knowledge Confidentiality: In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data Health & safety: The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the practices health and safety policy and other relevant policies e.g. infection control.
